How can you save on gas costs?
The easiest method is to reduce the number of trips you take. Instead of making two trips to run errands, try to combine your errands all into one trip. This will not only reduce the amount of fuel you burn by reducing the amount of distance travelled, but it will also save you time. You will find that in a very short amount of time, that making less trips means more money in the bank, and less spent at the pump.
Reduce the amount of weight carried inside your vehicle. Do you have the trunk full of stuff you never use? Empty this out of your vehicle. Less weight inside your car means there is less weight that your engine needs to burn fuel in trying to accelerate your vehicle. Your vehicle will be cleaner inside, and you’ll save some money in wasted burned fuel.
Change your driving habits to save gas money. Don’t put your foot to the floor at every opportunity you get. Revving your vehicle only causes it to burn more fuel and this in turn needlessly takes more money out of your pocket. Use cruise control at every opportunity (on long flat drives), coast up hills when there is no traffic around you, and coast to red lights. This will not only save you money on gas, but also on replacing worn and broken brake parts. Do not rapidly jump the green light at intersections either, as this is a huge waste of fuel. Be aware of your surroundings in order to save some money on gas by “hypermiling” and manipulating your vehicle to be the most fuel efficient it can be.
Finally, properly maintain your vehicle. The more wear and tear on your vehicle, generally shows less fuel efficiency. Do regular oil changes, and keep your suspension in top shape in order to ensure the proper running order of your vehicle. Vehicles with flawed suspensions generally are harder to handle, and can, in the long run, reduce fuel efficiency. Always make sure your tires are inflated to atleast the manufacturers rated specs (usually found printed on a decal on the inside of your door jamb), and in the summer time you may also be able to get away with a few extra psi to help decrease your tires rolling resistance, helping to increase your fuel economy.
